still adjusting

I'm having some issues getting into a sleeping schedule with my new hours. Instead of taking a nap this afternoon, I watched the rest of my movie that I started a couple of days ago. It was my first time watching Schindlers List. Wow! That movie messed me up.

schedule change

Today was my first day back on a day shift at work. I now work from 4am to 1pm, Monday-Friday. I'm trying to get my body to switch sleeping times again and last night was a bad start. I tried to go to sleep at 10pm and hoped to get about 5 hours of sleep. Instead I layed there very uncomfortably for about 3 hours and slept for 2. I'm going to go take a nap now.

that was quick

Shortly after posting my last entry about The French Connection, I went to the library and lo and behold, there it was. I had yet to see it there and assumed that they did not carry it. I was incorrect. When I put it in the DVD player, the disc wouldn't load. However, my computer did play it. There was only about 10 minutes left. The car chase scene that I thought I missed actually happened earlier, but because the disc (or DVD player) was causing trouble, it skipped part of the scene so I didn't think that it was "the" chase scene. I got to see that scene as well as the end. The chase was great, the end was...I'm not sure yet what I think about it actually. Overall, good movie.

movie quest on hold

I attempeted to continue the "Best Picture Watch" from the 70's with The French Connection (the only one of the remaining three from the 70's that interests me). Right at the climax of the movie, as the first shot of the final stand-off is fired, the movie freezes. I wiped off the disc and tried it again. No good. I tried playing it in my computer. No good. I brought the disc back and they put it through their disc buffer. No good. I've tried finding the movie at other rental locations. Nothing. I guess I'm stuck for now.

another portland weekend

This past weekend was a good one as Portland weekends usually are. It was the last time that I'll see Jason and Becky before they are parents. That's weird and exciting. I can't wait until the little guy is old enough for me to teach him cool stuff like burping the ABC's, spitting up in the air and catching it in your mouth, as well as some colorful words among other things. I'll have a few years to come up with a list.

quite a stir

I didn't even mention "Crash" in my last post, yet it caused quite a stir. Even as I originally wrote this it received two more comments. I have seen it, and had more of a positive reaction to it, though I have no interest in seeing it again, nor do I think it should have won the Oscar. I'll leave it at that.
Laurel is a bit further than I am in the number of Best Pictures seen since 1970 and Bob is just amazing. I've only seen half of them since 70 and only a few scattered ones prior to that. I was most surprised that I've only seen one Best Picture from the 80's (Chariots of Fire) even though there are several that I've been wanting to see for quite a while. The 70's Best Pictures that I've seen are from 72-78 which are: The Godfather (72), The Sting (73), The Godfather: Part II (74), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (75), Rocky (76), Annie Hall (77), and The Deer Hunter (78). That leaves me with Patton (70), The French Connection (71), and Kramer vs. Kramer (79) still to see. I've heard very little of these three so if anyone has any insight on whether these are worth watching, let me know. From the other 7 that I have seen, several rank highly in my favorite movies of all time. The only one that I didn't care for was The Deer Hunter. It was well acted and had some good moments, but it was a little slow for my liking.
I'm interested to know which Best Pictures others have enjoyed or not enjoyed.

portland, sufjan and movies

I will be in Portland this weekend. I am very excited about that as well as everything that being in Portland includes such as hanging out with friends and family, Sufjan Stevens concert, and Portland restaurants. It will be a great weekend.
I recently decided that over the course of the next several months (or longer) I want to try and watch every Oscar winning movie for Best Picture from the 70's until now. I'm just interested to see what made a movie "Best Picture" in different era's. Surprisingly, the decade that I've seen the most from is the 70's, already seeing 7 of the 10. I may not watch all of them however, because some just don't interest me at all.

the ol' switch-a-roo

Starting October 24th I'm going to be temporarily switching positions at my work. I'm going to leave the graveyard shift and go to an early 4am-1pm shift, still Monday through Friday. It'll only be for 8 weeks, but it will be a nice change. I'll be working with a small group of associates and we will be going through the entire store and putting inventory tags on everything in the overheads in preporation for inventory at the end of the year.
On a different note, I've actually bought a Christmas present for a family member already. This is a big deal since I rarely by any Christmas presents prior to the week before Christmas.
